Love★Com By: Aya Nakahara

Series Name: Love★Com (Lovely★Complex)
Author: Aya Nakahara
PAPERBACK
Publisher: Shojo Beat
Amount of volumes in series: 17
Amount of pages: approx 200
Geared Towards: Teens (13+)
Extra Info: Diana also reviewed it!!

Summary: Risa Koizumi is the tallest girl in her class, while Atsushi Ôtani is the shortest guy in her class. Their class has already put them together as the "All Hanshin-Kyojin" (A Japanese comedy duo featuring a really short guy and a really tall guy).

Because of this reason both of them hate each other. But during Summer, both are stuck in the same summer school and Risa falls in love with a guy taller then her and extremly good looking, Suzuki. Determined to get chummy with him, Risa joins forces with Ôtani (who also likes her friend, Chiharu Tanaka). Soon their budding friendship becomes something else, something they can't fight even if they tried.

Wdebo's Review: The only reason I read this book was because I just finished Hana Kimi and I had a void in my heart from it. So when I read Diana's post for it I was like sure it sounds ok and she had given a 4.5/5 on it so I decided to read it. I am so glad I did, because once I started to read it, I just COULDN'T put it down I just feel in love with it, with the story line, the characters (especially Ôtani-I know its weird when people say manga characters are cute, but he is totally adorable!), and just the dialogue and just everything! Such a good book!

Pros: It has just this Shojo charm, and its so sweet and cute. You can dive right into the book (except the first page was weird) and get into it right away, not like Hands Off! Which I found hard to understand and hard to get into. Even thogh at the end I also fell in love with it.

I love the character of Risa she is such a memorable character and so real, even though she is so dumb that *spolier warning* she couldn't figure out that she likes Ôtani and Ôtani couldn't figure out he likes her *spoiler ended!* (Just a min would that be counted as a con?)

I don't really have any cons so I'll talk about the characters...

Risa Kozumi: (Pictured) Our heronie of the story. The tallest girl of the class and just looking for love from someone who is taller then her.

Atsushi Ôtani: (Pictured) The hero of our story. The shortest guy of the class, looking for a girl who doesn't care that he's short. He's also a amazing basketball player.

Chiharu Tanaka: The friend of Risa and the object of Ôtani's affection. She is also totally afraid of guys.
All in all, if you've never read shojo or are a shojo vetren I highly reccomend that you read Love★Com, it's highly entertaining and sweet!

Lollipop (Bang Bang Tang)

So I did Hey Girl last week so I've decided to do Lollipop, their male counterparts this week enjoy! :D

So Lollipop consists of six guys (isn't their name soo ironic?) The six members include: Ao Quan, Wang Zi, Xiao Jie, Xiao Yu, Wei Lian, Ah Wei.

All six members were in Brown Sugar Macchiato with Hey Girl and all six of them were in Brown Sugar Chivalries. Wang Zi (In english it means Prince) was also in They Kiss Again (The sequal to It Started With a Kiss).

There is also a show that is called Muo Fang Bang Bang Tang (Immitating Lollipop)-I am actually a total sucker for that show I have no idea why, its just very interesting. It's way funny and they totally show off their childish sides.

I think this song is really cute by Lollipop called Na Li Pa (Not scared)

Please Comment!!

Cute MV! Wu Yue Tian rocks!!

So, I found this MV on YouTube yesterday and I am like obsessed with this song!! It's just too sweet and cute, its in Hokkien, so I don't understand any of it, I can just understand some of the chinese writings, but thats all.

The song? Le Se Che By: Mayday. 垃圾車 means garbage truck and the beginning melody is the song they put on garbage trucks in Taiwan!!

The MV is about a girl who hasn't really had a good birthday b4 I guess, so a group of ppl who used to be frogs (Mayday) decide to help her have a good birthday. So one of the guys is in charge of her, and he falls in love with her. She falls for him so she kisses him, but kissing him makes him turn back into a frog, and then she's angry cuz she wanted to spend her bday with him. Then the whole group comes and celebrates her bday, she cries, then tears makes him turn back into a frog. It sounds really weird in words but its realli sweet and cute!!

And ignore the talking part, they r just introducing the song...

Other songs by them that I have featured include...

Si ben dao yue qiu (Elope to the moon)
Lian Ai ING (Dating-ING)

Elijah's Coin: A Lesson For Life

Title: Elijah's Coin: A Lesson For Life
Author: Steve O'Brien
HARDBACK
Amount of Pages: 125
Publisher: A&N Publishing
Publishing Year: 2009
Geared Towards: Teens and up
Extra Info: If you buy the book you get two coins modled after the coin in the book.

Summary (From B.O.B):
"One hour from now I am going to change my life forever.
I am lying on my back with my fingers intertwined behind my head. I wait.
One hour from now I am going to be in charge of my life.
I glance to my left and my digital clock clicks from 12:59 to 1:00 AM I smile."

Elijah's Coin tells the story of Tom, a young man who has suffered a tragic loss and is spiraling out of control. Angry, anti-social, and rapidly descending into a life of crime, Tom seems lost until he encounters the mysterious night watchman Elijah King. With a strange coin Elijah has given him. Tom sets off on a journey of self discovery. Through coming to know others whose lives were also transformed by meeting Elijah, Tom begins to find himself. Still, he feels desperate to locate Elijah begins to find himself. Still, he feels desperate to locate Elijah again-a quest that ultimately leads to a shocking discovery.

Part Two of the story shows how Tom lives the message he has learned, learns to trust his own instincts, learns to trust his own insticts, and becomes a mentor to other individuals on the verge of being "lost." A serious conflict between his new values and a thirst for vengence arises, however, when Tom finds himself face-to-face with the darkest figure from his own past..

Wdebo's Review: From the beginning of the story where you meet Tom and what he does, to the end where he's a totally diffrent person with his life worked out, you just get sucked into the story and want to keep reading it until the last page.

Pro: Tom is well developed at the first part he is significantly diffrent then his personality and attitude in the second part. The story is well devloped and you have a sense like you are getting closer to the characters and they could just be people you lived next to, because they are just so real!

Con: The storyline gets kind of repetitive sometimes (between the first two ppl he is with), but its not that big of a deal.

All in all, I wouldn't call this book a "Lesson for Life" but it is pretty heart warming and a good really short story to read.

An Abundance of Katherines By: John Green

Title: An Abundance of Katherines
Author: John Green
PAPERBACK
Amount of Pages: 215 (Plus extra reader thingies)
Publisher: Speak
Publishing Year: 2006
Geared Towards: Teens (14+)

Summary (Credits to B.O.B):
19 Katherines and counting...

When it comes to relationships. Colin Singleton's type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact. On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy-loving best friend riding shotgun-but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove the Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and may finally win him the girl.

Wdebo's Review: This book was so predictable and cliche but cute. The moment you hear that girl's name you can guess exactly what is going to happen in the book, but in a way that can be good and bad, the good thing is it plays off my needs for a happy-sweet-could-never-be-true kind of ending where the nerd gets the girl, but then the bad thing is it is so predictable that in parts you just want to throw it down and say, "God, so you're gonna get the girl stop being so stupid and get a move on it already!" Yeah that's what I think about predictable/cliche endings...

Pros: It was like I said in the beginning cute and cliche, total chick lit material. It is funny and witty and you can really understand Colin as a person and his BFF.

Cons: Whenever I read a book I like to be able to like at least one of the characters, but in this story I don't know, I just couldn't connect to any of the characters and all of the were very annoying to me. Colin just seemed like a whinny like kid, even in the parts where you are suppose to feel sorry for him I just wanted to shake him and say "Grow up!" Also, the theorms at first were cool and fun but then after a while they got really monotonous and boring.

All in all, if you are looking to a fast easy read that ends in a happy ending you should pick up An Abundance of Katherines!

Hey Girl! (嘿Girl)

To tell you the truth I kno zilch about Hey Girl, but I only saw them in Brown Sugar Macchiato with Lollipop, so I'll let Wikipedia tell you some facts about them...

Hey Girl is a girl group from Taiwan (duh). And it is composed of nine members- Gui Gui, Xiao Jie, Mei Mei, Apple, Xiao Xun, Ya Tou, Xiao Man, Tong Tong, and Da Ya. They came from a talent show called Wo Ai Hei Se Hui it is hosted by Blackie.

All of the members are in Brown Sugar Macchiato with Lollipop :D And Gui Gui is in a new show called 霹靂MIT (Xiao Gui is also in it.) and Xiao Xun was in a show called 18 censored or not (I'll spotlight it sometime) with Ah Ben and she was also in Go! Fried Rice with Jiro!

The group has split up into two groups called Fen Hong Gao Ya Dian and Tian Xin Hong Zha Ji

In Fen Hong Gao Ya Dian there is...

Da Ya
Gui Gui
Ya Tou
Xiao Man
Apple

In Tian Xin Hong Zha Ji there is...

Mei Mei
Xiao Jie
Xiao Xun

Tong Tong used to also be in TXHZJ but she left because of something and is now on a show called "Momo Kids" (It's a kid's show).

My favorite song by them is called 123 mu tou ren (123 wood man-It is actually a kid's game where you walk around and then if you see a person you point at them and say "123 mu tou ren" then you take three steps towards them and see if you tag them, if you do then they're out if you don't they have a chance of saying that and trying to catch you! It's REALLY fun...)

Please comment and tell me what you think! :D

Change of Heart By: Jodi Picoult

Title: Change of Heart
Author: Jodi Picoult
HARDBACK (Yeah! I haven't read hardback books in a while)
Amount of pages: 447
Publisher: Atria Books (Division of Simon & Schuster)
Publishing Year: 2008
Geared Towards: Older Teens and Adults

Summary:
"Would you give up your vengeance against someone you hate if it meant saving someone you love? Would you want your dreams to come true if it meant granting your enemy's dying wish?"

Eleven years ago, June Nealson's perfect happy life fell apart, her full of life daughter and her husband were shot and killed by Shay Bourne, the man they employed to have him work on their house. Shay was later tried and put of the death sentence, for commiting one of the worst crimes in the history of the small town in New Hampshire.

Now, eleven years later, June is slowly nursing her sores with her daughter Claire, who is very sick and needs a heart transplant, and the only person who can save her? Shay Bourne.

As the story brings in more characters like Father Michael (One of the young men on the trial that sentenced Shay to death) and Maggie (His defense attorney), a story about faith and redemption opens up and let's us question what religion and faith really is.

Wdebo's Review: The only other book I read by Jodi Picoult is Nineteen Minutes, and the minute I read it I was sucked right in. In Change of Heart I found it confusing and stuff in the beginning, but after a while I loved it and thought it was amazing and was sucked right in.

Pro: Her characters are so well developed. You can really connect with some of these characters, at times I pittied June and at other times I hated her, she sounded so spoiled and just such a meanie. My favorite chacter has to be Maggie, she is so self concious about her weight, but she has this amazing wit and brains.

Con: The beginning was confusing (to me at least) and I found it boring and hard to get into, but after a while her wit and imagry came in and it got really good and hard to put down.

All in all, if you have some time and want to read a heart touching story, you must read it!

Random Taiwanese MVs.. Bear with me

Don't worry, this is just a phase I will hopefully grow out of...my obsession with Taiwanese idols/pop culutre...

First, since Laina has pointed out to me that Sky Sweetnamm (Im sorry I think I spelled her name wrong) has done a cover on Superstar, I have decided to put the original one by S.H.E up (One of my favorite songs by them!)

Next, lets have something with Asian flair.. :D Cheng Yao by: Xiao Zhu, this song is all about how he's thanking everyone who has helped him (including his mom...she's the last one the one who holds him while he jumps into her arms...) I was very sad when Xiao Gui wasn't in it, I thought he would be the very first one to appear!!

Lastly, Lian ai ING (Dating-ing) By: Mayday (Main singer is Ashin-from Si Ben Dao Yue Qiu) It is such a happy song!! Ahsin's voice scared me at first cuz the first song i heard him sing was Si Ben, and that song was so soft and cutesy and here he is belting out HAPPY ING, but I seriously love this song!!

S.H.E

Since I did Fahrenheit, I just had to do their female counterpart S.H.E!

S.H.E consists of three VERY talented girls, Hebe (left), Ella (Center-see she's from Hana Kimi!) and Selina (Right).

Hebe has appeared in the show Bull Fighting and Ella has been in Hana Kimi.

Hebe has also written the song Shuo Ni Ai Wo (Say you love me) which is a bittersweet song that stars Lego Li (In Honey and Clover).

My other favorite song by them is Chu Dian (Electric Shock) I really love this mv, its so cute!

Finally, here's a new song with them and Fahrenheit (They are so cute together-sorry no english subs :( ) -this is so funny cuz its a commercial for this one drink, cutest commercial EVER! :D

Hands Off! By: Kasane Katsumoto

Title: Hands Off!
Author: Kasane Katsumoto
PAPERBACK
Publisher: Tokyopop
Geared towards: Teens (14+)
Amount of volumes in series: 8 (?-I think)

Summary: Kotarou Oohira's life was nothing but misery in his old boy school, since he has such feminine qualities, the other guys at his school would torture him a lot about it. So when he finally gets to his new school he feels like he can have a better life, except for one thing, his cousin, Tatsuki Oohira is also in that school, and Kotarou is pretty sure Tatsuki hates him.

That is not the case however, because Kotarou has an ESP (special power) that he gave to Tatsuki when they were kids, Tatsuki has always been able to have postcognition after that, which intensifies whenever he is around Kotarou.

Through this whole mess another guy with ESP, Yuuto Urushiyama comes in. He has the ability of reading other people's auras and is a total playboy/goofball. (Also my favorite character because he is just so funnny and you can tell he has a really good heart.) Through the story, Kotarou realizes just how special his power is.

Wdebo's Review: Actually the only reason I picked up this book was because I was in this giant mood to read a good manga book, but all the manga books I wanted to read/put on hold were still on hold for like EVER, so I randomly picked up a manga book and began reading it. At first it was really hard to get into, the language was rough, the pictures felt rough to me (As a Shoju vetren but having never read anything outside of that it was WEIRD), and the words just didn't really seem to fit the characters, but until the middle I finally got into it, after I finished it I re-read it like a gazillion times and I am finally in love with this series.

Pro: The characters are well developed, they all have their diffrent personalities and looks (a big part of manga), it wasn't all cutsey and showed off how wonderful and fluffy the world is, it was more down to earth and relistic. The storyline is also really interesting and original and it is very funny.

Con: It does take a while to get used to, or maybe it might be because I've never read anything like it, but I really liked it after I got used to it. Also the scenes can get a little um rough and the language is also really rough for such girlish guy characters lol.

All in all, if you enjoy manga books that aren't always, everyone has a really good looking partner (AKA Shoju- which I love, FYI) like, you will defidently fall in love with this book!

Grade: B++ (Not an A yet, but I mean its too good just for a B+)

Smiling Pasta

Ok, I also reviewed this TDrama before, but since it was on my "FIRST POST" (Wow that was like six months ago-time goes by so fast!) and it was part of my Queen of Babble review, so yeah, here it is again! My friend also reviewed it...

Cheng Xiao Shi (Cyndi Wang), is a very unlucky girl with a curse on her that says she will not have any relationships past 3 months. After her 16th relationship fails (surprise surprise it was on their 3 month anniversary), she runs into He Qun (Nicholas Teo), who is running away after his girlfriend, Rita (Zhao Hong Qiao), leaves with his brother Ah Zhe (Gino). He Qun runs into Xiao Shi and knocks her down and accidently kisses her, this sparks media frenzy, because they think He Qun and Rita are still dating!

This was the second drama I ever watched (Hana Kimi was the first) so I was still on my Hana Kimi obsession. I didn't think that anyone could replace Chun and Ella in the cutest couple category and Hana Kimi in the cutest love story category. I was wrong, I learned that all of them could share the spotlight. Cyndi and Nicholas are so cute together! They are so pei (Chinese for compatible). Cyndi is so cute and funny and Nicholas is so sweet, but he looks so depressed during the whole show, even in his happy moments he looks like something big is bothering him.

I love their chemistry in this show, I guess thats why I love TDramas, because of the chemistry between the main characters, b/c in some shows there is just no chemistry the only reason you know they are suppose to be together is because they say "I love you," but even then they say it with a stony face, and saying that in movies is not only suppose to make the main girl character's heart feel like jelly, but also the audience watching. Um, those lines don't make my heart feel like jelly it just makes me pissed and want my money back.

I love the story its so funny and cute and just has the TDrama charm in it, they lines are hillarious and they just make you randomly burst out laughing or urge them to jia you (Chinese for go! or buck up! or good luck! )

Grade: A

I also LOVE the beginning song Rainbow Smile by Cyndi Wang!

Frostbite: A Vampire Academy Novel

Title: Frostbite: A Vampire Academy Novel
Author: Richelle Mead
PAPERBACK
Amount of Pages: 327
Publisher: Razorbill
Publishing Year: 2008
Geared Towards: Teens (14+)
Extra Info: It is the second book in the Vampire Academy series, the first book is Vampire Academy and the third book is Shadow Kiss.

Summary: It is finally winter at St. Vladmir. But the snow has brought around a round of ruthless killing from the Strigoi. It puts the whole of St. Vladmir into a high alert. They add many reinforcements of gaurdians, including Rose's famous and long-absent mother, Janine Hathaway. The whole school is not going to take any risks so they make every one go to a posh Idaho resort for the holiday ski trip. They believe this is the saftest, until another Strigoi attack sends them reeling and the "safe" feeling slowly disappers.

But the Moroi are not the only ones in trouble...Rose Hathaway's romance life is getting WAY out of hand. Her dreamy tutor, Dimitri, might be falling for someone else, and her good friend Mason has a giant crush on her, but she just doesn't feel that way about him. What's a girl to do when she might never be able to see the guy she loves again and that her friend Lissa might be stolen away by either the Strigoi or her boyfriend, Christian?

This time, Winter Break could turn very deadly.

Wdebo's Review: I totally worshipped (haha that might be a little strong, but...) Vampire Academy, so I had very high expectations for this book, but they might have been a little TOO high. I'm not saying this book was horrible, it was really good actually just not what I was expecting.

Pro: Wonderfully written like Vampire Academy, I love how strong of a character Rose is, her character and leadership is very admirable. The whole of Vampire Academy is knitted together so well that you feel like you are there and like you've been to this school before and are like an alumni of it, amazingly written!

Con: The harshness of it, yes there are soft parts, but there is just a harsh feeling in it.

All in all, I loved this book, it was great, not the best (The first one was the best) but wonderful all the same! Remember to read Vampire Academy!!

Love or Bread

Ahh, another Ariel Lin and Joe Cheng collaboration, they are so cute, ArJoe forever!!

Love or Bread is the story about Fa Lan Ke "Frank" (Joe Cheng) and Shan Mei (Ariel Lin). Frank is a very poor guy, but he always had dreams of becoming rich, so he puts on a fascade of being a rich guy. Shan Mei, on the other hand, is a very hard worker and is also very poor. One day while on a job at the bank, SM calls Frank's house to inquire about some bank business but when she calls there is suddenly silence, so she runs to his house and finds him attcked by some bad people. She saves him, and they later run into each other MANY times. (That, my friends, is called destiny, or they are SO fated to fall in love! <3 )

Shan Mei goes out of the country to visit her boyfriend, who she has been sending money to for a couple of years. When she goes, however, she finds out her BF has been unfaithful, and later runs away, not with a ring on her finger but with a heaviness in her heart. When she gets back strange circumstances make Frank and SM roomates and their love blossoms from there, even though SM finds Frank dispicable.

This drama (ends next week-I'm so sad!) is very short, its only 12 episodes long! It is extremly funny and cute, it feels like ArJoe switch roles, because they have completly diffrent personalities then in ISWAK. Ariel of course is a pheonminal actress in this show and they just are so perfect for each other!

I hope all of you can watch it!!

The Book Thief By: Markus Zusak

Title: The Book Thief
Author: Markus Zusak
PAPERBACK
Amount of Pages: 550
Publisher: Random House
Publishing Year: 2005
Geared Towards: Teens (14+)
Extra Info: Markus Zusak is also the author of I am the Messanger (Another AMAZING read!)

Summary (Credits to "B.O.B"):
It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The Country is holding its breath.
Death has never been busier, and will become busier still.

By her brother's graveside, Liesel Meminger's life is changed when she picks up a single object, partially hidden in the snow. It is The Grave Digger's Handbook, left there by accident, and it is her first act of book thievery. So begins a love affair with books and words, as Lisel, with the help of her accordion-playing foster father, learns to read. Soon she is stealing books from Nazi book-burnings, the mayor's wife's library, wherever books are found.

But there are dangerous times. When Lisel's foster family hides a Jew in their basement, Lisel's world is both opened up and closed down.

Wdebo's Review: There were many unique things about this book. For one it is told from Death's point of view, and there are many "interesting" drawings that show the darkness of that period of of that certain artist's feelings. This was such a darkly humorous book, I just wish I could read it again. (But, alas, I can't, for I have to turn it into our school's library).

Pro: A very original story, which is very refreshing because I have been reading stories about the same topic over and over again. The idea of Death's point of view is also very interesting, even though in the middle you kind of forget it is from the point of view of Death, because you are focusing on Lisel's story, then suddenly Death jumps out and has this "Death's thoughts" moment and your like, "Oh yeah, this is sort of Death's story huh."

Con: I don't know why, but even though I did enjoy the beginning I found it kind of boring and just wanted to skip it and get to the middle.

All in all, this book was an amazing emotion jerker, I laughed and I admit it, I cried at the end, the imagry was just THAT good! I seriously cannot wait for a new book by him!!

Wdebo's Review: Another amazing book from Simone Elkeles and part of the "How to Ruin" books. I can't wait for the new one!!

Pro: This story is written in a wonderfully humorous and amazing first person. Amy sounds just like the sarcastic teenager that everyone goes to school with, our yourself for sometimes. I really love her humor and how she can make such interesting comments on everything. I love the characters, except Mitch he's such a butt, and he's a mean and insensitive one at that.

Con: Sometimes, it felt like the jokes were forced and was very awkward, but in other parts in flowed right into the story.

All in all, you should read the "How to Ruin" books, they are amazingly funny and How to Ruin My Teenage Life is no exception.
