Kissed By An Angel By: Elizabeth Chandler

Title: Kissed By An Angel
Author: Elizabeth Chandler
PAPERBACK
Amount of Pages: Around 230 per story
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Release Date: December 16, 2008
Geared Towards: Teens/Paranormal Romance lovers
Extra Info: Kissed By An Angel is a trilogy that came out in the 90's this is just the bound edition of all three stories.

"'Stop, why don't you stop?' she pleaded. 'Tristan, stop!'
Then the windshield exploded.
For days after, all Ivy could remember was the waterfall of glass."

Summary (From B.O.B): A love beyond life...a danger beyond doubt.

When her boyfriend, Tristan, died, Ivy thought she'd lost everything, even her faith in angels. But now she's discovered her guardian angel-his presence so strong that she can feel the touch of his hand, the beat of his heart. Ivy needs Tristan now more than ever because he knows she's in terrible danger. Only Ivy's guardian angel can save her, now that his killer is after her.

But if Tristan rescues Ivy, his mission on earth will be finished, and he must leave her behind forever. Will saving Ivy mean losing her just when he's finally reached her again?

Wdebo's Review: I really liked Kissed By An Angel, it hits the paranormal love for me, but I was very thankful there was no vampires, haha, WAY too many vampire books right now. The story of having the one you love, and right when you think you've actually accepted his gone-ness he suddenly comes back as a ghost and you can be with him again (even if not for a long time), I think it's just so romantic, so Ghost. That reminds me, the ending reminded me so much of Ghost.

I thought the writing was very good, very good imagry, and a nice mix of characters. Ivy is the all around loveable girl but with a twist, the whole in love with angels, and Suzanne, one of Ivy's best friend, is a total slut (I really don't know how to say it), I really didn't like Suzanne, but I loved Beth, she was the shy, quiet romance-novel writing one, yeah!!

Anyways, if that actually happened to me (the whole loved one coming back as a ghost thing) I would be so happy, but if I find out that he has to go away in a bit, wouldn't that just make me more sad, the idea of losing the one you love twice?

Cafe Cover Chat: Hm, the cover looks ok, the flower looks kinda cool, but I don't really like it. (B-)

All in all, a great trilogy for paranormal romance lovers, and for anyone else in between.

Grade: B+

District 9 (Movie)

Title: District 9
Release Year: 2009
Director: Neill Blokamp
Rated: R
Cafe Warning: There is like intense language like the F word every other line and it is very graphic, even though its super safe, but not good for children.
Actor(s): Sharlto Copley as Wikus Van De Merwe
Extra Info: Click HERE to visit the site! It's pretty cool, check it out!

Summary: District 9 is a place for aliens/non-humans more commonly known by their deragatory term "prawns" that came to this earth around 20 years ago, now humans are ralling for them to be shipped away so the Multi-National United (MNU) is getting eviction notices to the aliens to make sure they leave in a day, and the head of this operation? Wikus Van De Merwe, a not entirely bright man.

Wdebo's Review: I am not a big fan of movies like these, but for some reason when I watched the trailer I really really really wanted to watch this movie. When I started watching it, I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen, all I knew was that District 9 was a place for aliens. But for some reason I really enjoyed it, it was surprisingly a very good movie. Except the middle was a bit boring.

The movie is shot in a documentary form, and it was a very good idea, it was like watching this informational thing-y about something that was happening. I am a person who hates graphic pictures and stuff, so I wasn't all that happy with the blood and guts and stuff, but it was seriously really fake, so it wasn't that bad, but still really gross.

After this movie all I could think was "Humans are seriously horrible creatures."

Pretty Little Liars By: Sara Shepard

Title: Pretty Little Liars

Author: Sara Shepard
PAPERBACK
Amount of Pages: 286
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: October 3, 2006
Geared Towards: Teens
Extra Info: This is the first book in the Pretty Little Liars series, you can visit the book's site HERE.

"It was horrible to think Ali might be dead, but...if she was, at least their secrets were safe.
And they were. For three years, anyways."

Summary: Four friends: Spencer, Aria, Emily and Hanna were bounded together in seventh grade by their ringleader, the gorgeous, glamorous Ali. Spencer is the one always just below Ali, Aria is the "weird" one, Emily is the swimmer and Hanna is the dorky, overweight, loveable one. They were all great friends until the last day of seventh grade when Ali disappered and was never seen again.

Now, it's their junior year and all the girls have grown apart. Spencer is having impure thoughts about her sister's boyfriend. Aria has just come back from Europe and is possibly in love with her English teacher. Emily is crushing on the new girl. And Hanna is no longer cute and cuddly, but sluttier then Paris Hilton.

But then someone keeps texting them, someone who knows all their secrets and how bad they are now, someone who signs off as "A," and she's getting ready to tell the world their secrets.

Wdebo's Review: At first, I honestly didn't think I was going to enjoy this book, the whole "mean girls" books are so cliche and overdone...way too many people have been writing about it, but Pretty Little Liars was actually a very enjoyable book, and I honestly can't wait for Flawless!

The writing was very good, it was entertaining and a quick read, which is always a nice break from very very long books. I actually liked...hm, that might be putting it too nicely...let me rephrase that....I actually enjoyed peeking into the characters lives, god, seriously so much drama, I love the simplicity of my life sometimes :)

But I do like how everyone's problems are diffrent, though I honestly don't think of Hanna's "problem" as technically counting as a problem, seriously, it's her fault, but whatever, they were all very great to read about, the book was actually quite addicting.

Cafe Cover Chat: I like the Pretty Little Liars covers, the dolls and the real people are nice touches, except that yellow is not really that pretty too dull yet bright for my taste. (B+)

All in all, a very good "mean girls" book that is a quick read, but will leave you (well at least, me) wanting the next book in the series.

Classic Friday (2): Rosemary's Baby

Merry Christmas!! What do I have for you, well a cult classic "horror" movie review of course :) Enjoy!
Title: Rosemary's Baby
Year: 1968
Director: Roman Polanski
Actors/Actresses: Mia Farrow as Rosemary Woodhouse, John Cassavetes as Guy Woodhouse, Ruth Gordon as Minnie Castevet and Sidney Blackmer as Roman Castevet.
Rated: R

Synopsis: When Rosemary moves into her new apartment with her husband, Guy Woodhouse, an ambitious but unsuccesful actor, she meets a girl named Terry who tells her about an old couple, the Castevets, who has taken her in, a few days later she kills herself.

The Woodhouses later meet the Castevets, but find them to be a rather odd couple, both Rosemary and Guy make fun of them, Guy especially. But after a while Guy seems to be rather taken with the old couple. One night Minnie brings a chocolate mousse for Guy and Rosemary, Rosemary eats it but thinks it has a "chalky aftertaste," Guy tells her its fine and eat the whole thing, when Guy goes away form the table Rosemary dumps the rest of the mousse out. Later that night, Rosemary has a weird hallucination feeling which at first feels like a dream, but after a bit she realizes its not a dream but that she is part of some weird ritual, there are weird symbols drawn all over her body and a weird thing that rapes with her.

A few days later she finds she is pregnent, but her pregnency is weird she is losing pounds instead of gaining it, her husband won't even look her in the eyes, and her baby seems to be attacking her from within, and she slowly learns about sadistic happenings in their new apartment.

Wdebo's Review: Ok, I know that summary was really, long but I really don't know how to make it shorter, this movie just twists around, but also has that predictable chessy nature that all 60's movies have. But the beginning has totally weird scenes, especially the scene after the chocolate mousse...totally weirdness, especially when you're watching it with your parents :O

But after that it was pretty mild and not that bad, except aggravating like all the other 60's horror movies, just some parts are so ugh, that make you want to scream, why are you going there? There's like 1000 signs that tell you not to go!!

All in all, it was a pretty interesting movie, not my favorite, but after that horribly awkward scene it actually got pretty good, except the ending was VERY unsatisfying...and the props were pretty lol, the "devil" reminded me of the swamp thing and the "baby" looked like Donnie Drako's bunny's offspring.

Grade: B-

Sodagreen~

Ok, I can't believe it has taken me so long to find Sodagreen, but I am so happy that I did. This is officially one of my favorite bands...Qing Feng's voice is just so unique but very light and soothing, love it and the whole band is just adorable....they have the cutest personality every, especially Qing Feng!

A little Wiki info first....
Chinese Band Name: 蘇打綠
English Name: Sodagreen
Band Members:
Qing Feng (Voacalist/Songwriter)
Jiang Kai Liou (Electrical Guitar)
Jing-Yang Ho (Ah Fu) (acoustic guitar)
Yu-Chi Gong (Zephyr) (keyboard, viola, dance)
Shin-Yi Shie (Claire) (bass)
Jyun-Wei Shih (Wei) (drums, percussion, songwriting)

When I first listened to Sodagreen (First song was 小情歌 [Little Love Song]) I was taken aback by Qing Feng high voice, but after a bit I got used to it and was just in love with it. This whole band is very amazing and just way talented...Qing Feng's lyrics are simple yet hold a very deep meaning to them and are just well...awesomeness.

So, some songs....

Guest Blog: Ron Riekki

Today we have Ron Riekki, author of Up [Click HERE for the Amazon site], for a guest blog, here we are...

********
When the Electrical Book Cafe asked me to "write something that could help aspiring authors get to their goal," I thought, "What the heck is an 'Electrical Book Cafe?' It sounds like a B-side song from Smashing Pumpkins. Or Blind Melon. Some band with an adjective in front of a food." And then I thought maybe it's an actual book cafe, but then I realized it wasn't. It was actually an electronic book cafe, so then I was kind of let down. Until I realized it was an Electrical Book Cafe and More and then I was kind of excited and confused. And then I saw it was written by someone named Weeblos with a dog named Haai-O, which is what Ed McMahon used to yell on The Tonight Show. And then after that I remembered I was supposed to write about helping expiring authors to get to their goal and so I thought of Jack Kerouac's "Belief & Technique for Modern Prose," his 30 essentials for those who want to write. I remembered loving that list when I first read it, at the height of a Kerouac addiction that shifted to a Kerouac admiration and now is basically a Kerouac's pretty good. But I thought it might be fun to write up my own kind of list, especially as I'd never attempted to do something along those lines before so it would sort of be like hosting my own cooking show with Chelsey Sullenberger III. So here it is . . . Here's my
30 BELIEFs & TECHNIQUEs FOR POsT-MODERN PROsE (I made the S's small to be all post-modern-y)
1) If you ever have a choice between staying in and writing for the night or going out and kissing someone you love, go out. Choose love over writing every time. Every time. Unless that person will lead to an eventual divorce and a subsequent suicide . . . then stay in and write.
2) If a creative writing teacher ever tells you that you don't have talent, don't listen to them. They're just mad that they're going bald.
3) Read a lot. No idea what to read? Then pick up Andrew Calcutt & Richard Shephard's Cult Fiction: a reader's guide and read every MUST READ listed in the book. That's what I've been doing since I picked that book up at the Harvard Coop in Cambridge in 1998. And if right now you are reading Sarah Palin's Going Rogue and/or that book Twilight by whoever wrote the book Twilight, then you should be shot. And also you're magical, because you're reading this, so how could you be reading Sarah Palin's Going Rogue at the same time?
4) Write a lot. I knew too many "writers" in the MFA programs I graduated from who talked about writing but didn't write. Just like Socrates and Jesus. And since their MFA, they haven't gotten published. Just like Socrates and Jesus. They gave up writing and went to law school or medical school and now they make $170,000 a year. Just like Socrates and Jesus.
5) Don't publish on vanity presses. When I was writing for the Forest Park Review, I had to read a vanity press book. It was the most painful experiences of my life. OK, that’s an exaggeration. I had my collarbone broken. That was worse. And breaking up with my last girlfriend, worse. And living in Alabama for two years, definitely worse. Even worse than the collarbone thing. So I’ll change that reading of the vanity press book to 48th most painful moment of the last five years. Case in point--I'll randomly google a vanity press book now and see what comes up . . . and the first title I came across was We're Gonna Need More Arrows!: hunting adventures around the country and around the world. I haven't read it, but I have a feeling that book would make Going Rogue look like Dostoevsky. And to the author of We're Gonna Need More Arrows!: hunting adventures around the country and around the world, feel free to thank me for doubling your publicity on the book. I want a cut of your first royalty check that will never arrive so forget that I'm even talking to you right now but if you are reading this seriously have a sense of humor because I know you own a lot of arrows.
6) Get an agent. Put that at the top of the list. You have to have a literary agent. By the way, I should note that I don't have an agent, which means it’s sort of idiotic to listen to my advice about the importance of agents I suppose. So go on to point 6.
7) Go to Harvard. The best writers seem to come from Harvard Medical School and Harvard
Law School. That's because they have the money that it takes to become a writer. Being a writer is kind of like being a homeless person except you have a home and a laptop. If you can’t go to Harvard, then become a nurse. Major in Nursing and get your minor in Creative Writing. That way you can have a job so that you can eat during your crazy I-wanna-be-a-writer days. And you'll also know how to treat a sucking chest wound. If you can’t become a nurse or go to Harvard, then move to Ireland. People from Ireland know how to write. And if you can’t become a nurse or go to Harvard or move to Ireland, then become a wizard. Because, seriously, how cool would it be to become a wizard? Especially if you were a magical wizard and not just like a normal everyday wizard.
8) Pray.
9) Go to writer's conferences. You won't learn anything at them, but the hook-up ratio at those things is off the charts.
10) Listen to 2Pac. I'm not joking. If you ever have writer's block, listen to 2Pac. And not just All Eyez on Me--I'm talking all of his stuff: 2Pacalypse Now, Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z., the Makaveli stuff. And listen to Malcolm X speeches. And get really competitive when you go bowling. That aggression and commitment will get your pen going. Does me anyhow. Oh, and don't listen to Nickelback. It’s physically impossible to win the Pulitzer Prize and listen to Nickelback at the same time. Although it is possible to listen to Nickelback and end up in rehab.
11) Other cures for writer's block other than listening to "Keep Ya Head Up" include travelling, having a severe gambling addiction, volunteering, committing a minor misdemeanor, going to a black church (going to a white church though has been proven to cause writer's block, see Harvard Review of Psychology, 1963), lighting a fire in a fireplace, being on the BBC, rowing, going AWOL from military service, landscaping, visiting a Holocaust museum, and baking.
12) Root for the Lions.
14) Like Proust, be an old teahead of time . . . err, excuse me that's from Kerouac's list. Which reminds me . . .
15) Read Kerouac's "Belief & Technique for Modern Prose." I can’t come up with 15 more suggestions. That’s just ridiculous.
Anyway, I hope these suggestions will help exhaling authors get to their goal. And if it doesn’t help you, good! What? Do you think I want you competing against me? I should have had this list be things like “Don’t read” and “Avoid writer’s conferences” and “listen to Nickelback.”

Heartbreaker- G-Dragon

-English Subbed-

Artist: G-Dragon
Language: Korean
Notes: Hm, I'm not that big into Korean music, but I have two best friends who are obsessed with it, so I decided why not. One of my friends keeps telling me about G-Dragon so I decided to listen to the first mv with english subs. I loved this song, awesome beat, G-Dragon has an awesome voice...he just looks so pale and girlie in it, yes he's hot in the way, but his features (mostly his eyes) are so feminie that in parts he just seems to blend in with the girl dancers in the back. He looks hotter in his sunglasses.

But apart from that enjoy!

Hope you enjoy and comment!

Summary (From B.O.B):

a secret society with very strict rules. And falling in love
breaks all the laws of the Night World.

Two witch cousins fight over their high school crush. It's a battle between black magic and white magic in Spellbinder.
Wdebo's Review: Ooo, I have some friends that really love the Vampire Diaries and I have been dying to read it, so when I got a chance to review Night World No. 1, I was ubber excited and jumped at the oppurtunity. I thouroughly enjoyed this book, this book is very big, and seems menancing, but after a bit it just sucks you in and you don't realize the thickness of the book, actually you do, but you just wish that there was more.
L.J. Smith is such a wonderful author, I loved her writing style. It seems that Stephanie Meyer has taken a lot of her ideas from L.J., seriously, vampires that hear thoughts, super fast vamps, etc?!
But I just love all of the stories, at first I thoughtall the stories would be more boring then the last, seriously, you can only talk about the soulmate principle for so long, but I was wrong, with each new twerk and twist of each sotry, there was just something new and fresh and exciting, and the happy endings never hurt, total love! And it was also cool how random characters from the last story came to visit in other stories...I just love when that happens!
Favorite story: I defidently have to say Secret Vampire, seirously, the whole idea of falling in love with your super hot best guy friend is awesomeness, and dating a vampire is coolio too. Plus Poppy and James are so cute together!
Cafe Cover Chat: Ugh, don't really like the cover at all, all it is, is a person standing, it's not interesting (B-)
All in all, a great (set of) novel (s), I thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait for the next installment!

Reccomended For: Teenage Viewers

"I like how you call me the Ugly, Shame of Society, Mushroom head.
I like you when you hit me 800 times per day.
I like you when you speak in English.
I like you when you get drunk and need me to piggy-back you home.
I like you when you love to sleep during class, yet you're focused when you do your report.
I like you, that you, like me, like the Pink Panther, and know who his best friend is.
I like you, even though you are not my dream girl.
But, I still like you.

Summary: Xue Hai (Show Luo) is very rich and has been sheltered by his older sister (who looks more like his grandma) since he was born. Xue Hai has a very innocent and geeky apperence, from his giant glasses to his mushroom head to his pink shorts to his toy "Pink Panther," but all he wants is freedom, so he decides to go to Hang Zhou for college.

At Hang Zhou, with his sister fearing that he would be killed because he is rich, she decides to make another identity for him, Da Lang, the geeky, very very poor student. When he gets to Hang Zhou, he meets his crazy roomates (The duo from Blue Bird Flying Fish! [Click HERE for their TTS]), experiences many firsts and meets the very angry Bao Zhu Jie (Rainie Yang). Both don't seem like those who would be in the same room together, but slowly with Da Lang's desire to be friends they become that and more.

But with just a tiny misunderstanding, Da Lang loses contact with Bao Zhu and believes that she hates him, so he decides to go back to Taiwan and become a play boy to get back at her.

Wdebo's Review: Those who read my blog, probobly know how much I love Show so it is defidently not a surprise that I would start watching Hi My Sweetheart. But even though Show is awesomeness I just LOVE this drama so much. It is seriously so sweet and cute, though it does have its sad points. All of them are such great actors/actresses!

There is just something about this drama that makes it irresistible and hillarious. (Well, its Show so of course its funny!) There is just a heartwarming sensation about this, seriously, what's not to love about a happy, bubbly nerd turning a stone-hard "bad girl" to mush? It makes you laugh, and yes, it can even make you cry at some parts, Show and Rainie look very cute together, but I still think Rainie and Xiao Gui [Click HERE for his TTS] are the cutest!

Now to Rainie, it was seriously a shock to see Rainie in a character like this, she usually plays the sweet girl, or at least the hard will girl but she has never played a "bad girl" before, even though Bao Zhu isn't really that "bad girl" material. But anyways, great job Rainie! Awesome acting!
Also, Show's transformation is just awesomeness, first episode, first part...enjoy! (English Subbed!)

Classic Friday (1) Fahrenheit 451

So, I decided to do a new feature called "Classic Friday" which I will HOPEFULLY be able to get to each which, each Friday I will feature a classic be it book, movie or song...hope you enjoy! And if you want to feel free to make your own!~

Type: Book
Title: Fahrenheit 451
Author: Ray Bradbury
HARDBACK
Amount of Pages: 165
Publisher: Ballatine Books
(1st) Release Date: August 12 (My dad's b-day!), 1987
Geared Towards: Adults
Summary (From Amazon): In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury's classic, frightening vision of the future, firemen don't put out fires--they start them in order to burn books. Bradbury's vividly painted society holds up the appearance of happiness as the highest goal--a place where trivial information is good, and knowledge and ideas are bad. Fire Captain Beatty explains it this way, "Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs.... Don't give them slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy."
Guy Montag is a book-burning fireman undergoing a crisis of faith. His wife spends all day with her television "family," imploring Montag to work harder so that they can afford a fourth TV wall. Their dull, empty life sharply contrasts with that of his next-door neighbor Clarisse, a young girl thrilled by the ideas in books, and more interested in what she can see in the world around her than in the mindless chatter of the tube. When Clarisse disappears mysteriously, Montag is moved to make some changes, and starts hiding books in his home. Eventually, his wife turns him in, and he must answer the call to burn his secret cache of books. After fleeing to avoid arrest, Montag winds up joining an outlaw band of scholars who keep the contents of books in their heads, waiting for the time society will once again need the wisdom of literature.
Wdebo's Review: So, I remember trying to start Fahrenheit 451 in seventh grade but I couldn't, I guess I was "intellectually too young" as my chemistry teacher would call it. I couldn't grasp this strong idea that was hanging in the book, I'm sure many of you are probobly thinking, oh, she must be really dumb if she doesn't understand it at all, I read it in sixth grade and was perfectly fine with it. But there was just a deep sense in this book that I just couldn't understand as a seventh grader.
The main point is about well, book burning and the idea of censorship. But there was an idea, a lesson in every little twist and turn of the book, are rebels really "bad" or are they just seeing our society as something that we, the normal conformists just can't grasp.
Now, for the real review, at first, I only started it because one of my guy friends was talking about all these books, and I felt horribly stupid because I hadn't read like a single one, so I decided to read more classic books! At first, Fahrenheit 451 seemed kinda boring and hard to get into, but after a few more pagest it got very good, then boring again and then good...a total roller coaster ride...but overall, it was satisfactory.
Except I thought the Afterword was more interesting then the whole book, haha, but Ray Bradbury did bring up some very good points.
Cafe Cover Chat: Ugh, I don't like this book cover at all, not good. (C)
All in all, a good classic story, and will be enjoyed and thought over by many.
Grade: B+

XZ: THAT'S RIGHT!
XG: What about fish? I want a fish burger.
XZ: FISH.
XG: FISH?
XZ: FISH.
XG: You have to say it completely.
XZ: FISH HAMBURGER.
XG: Oh, ok, well if I don't want any meat, I just want the burger.
XZ: Eh?
XG: No meat.
XZ: HEY! HEY, HEY! NO, NO, NO! *handmotions* *XG laughs* This is really hard!
XG: So we meet the most present obstacle, money, ask you how much money.
XZ: That's easy, they all have a calculator up there.
XG: Oh, they can see.
XZ: Then you just give the money and pay.
XG: Ih that's ok
XZ: Eh
XG: Well what other questions are there? I've never been to New York.
XZ: You're never left the country.
XG: Go out of the country?
XZ: You've been to Australia, those all have english sections.
XG: I just wanted to ask you, you can tell me.
XZ: I telll you, I can safely go and come *And says an idiom I don't know*
XG: What you just said made no sense.
XZ: But you buy back a lot of stuff. I even got fat.
XG: Yes you did gain some.
XZ: Now I have to go on a diet *XG passes board to him* I keep having to read. Do I look fat? *Looks at screen*
XG: No.
XZ: There is a little
XG: But you have a lot of performances.
