Last Words

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words- and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the “Great Perhaps.” Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young, Cleaver, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy; Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Wdebo’s Review: All of John Green’s books seem to have similar characters and plot, nerdy, friendless guy meets super amazing girl, girl seems like she could have no interest in guy, guy gets depressed but in the end he gets the girl. Even through these similarities there are always little quarks to the storyline that make each one special and an amazing read in its own way.
Looking For Alaska was very enjoyable in the whole similar plot way of course, but also because of John Green’s writing. John Green writes in a very sarcastic manner and sounds exactly how a teenager sounds…he adds in random funny points...hehe he has very random humor which is nice...and does turn around some of the sadness.

Even though Miles can be pretty annoying and just plain stupid sometimes...there is something enjoyable about him...there is always something enjoyable about John Green's characters...even though they can be total annoying pests sometimes.

Cafe Cover Chat: Hm, I do like the cover...it has this simple philosophical thing going on...but it's still not my fav cover ever. (B+)

All in all, a great book by John Green, total thumbs up for it! A must read for John Green fans and those who are just getting into his books.

Grade: B+

  1. Great review. I don't know about the cover, I quess it's okay. The summary sounds great, but with annoyable characters the book is maybe not for me.
    Thanx!!!

  3. I really enjoyed the talk about The Great Perhaps for Miles. And of including all the famous last words by people. John always writes the coolest stories. Are you able to pick a favorite out of all the books he's published so far? It's so hard for me, but if I have too, I'd say I enjoyed Paper Towns the best.

    Thanks for the review! :)
